2010 Running Season

Runnning is perhaps the most popular way to exercise in todays world. People often have different motivations for running some for the exercise, some do it for the run itself, some do it competitivly. I happen to do it for all three reasons. For the enthuasiast that do it just because they enjoy it or do it competetivly they run year round. But for the other half that do it because they just happen to lift and train to stay in shape its time to start back up spring is closing in.

For those who compete they are well aware of the spring opening up for the runs and marathons. With the Flying Pig the largest marathon in the Cincinnati area coming up in just over two months its getting very real. May2, 2010 is the date of this years Flying Pig marathon. Some of the runners may be thinking about tapering in a month to a month and a half. Cincinnati is pretty well known for running through out the U.S and the season for most starts with the Flying Pig and for most ends with the Susan G. Komen Race for the cure in September. However for the very serious there are events all year round, these athletes may preffer the Flying Pig and the Race for The Cure but they still compete in the dark season of winter. However most serious runners of the elite standards will travel to run all over, even go as far as California for Ultra Marathons.

For many High School and College runners this is the marking of Track and Field and go all the way through Cross Country. If your in College you most likely train year round. BUt for High School athletes there is rules to when you may be coached so they must train themselves. Those most who are dedicated do so whil others simply do not have the time.
The ones who do it to stay in shape and to train for other sports the time starts when it gets warm enough. That is fast aproaching February is almost over and the snow is starting to melt. Spring air is moving in and day light will last longer. So there is more available time for training and the sunset just sets the running mood.
So get your shoes and start warming up for the nine months of the year that seem to matter most. Good luck.
